You Can Be 100% Sure of Eternal Life
Do you know where you would be if you died today? The Bible says that you can "know that ye have eternal life" (1 John 5:13) and that you can have a real, personal relationship with God. This life is short compared to eternity. "For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." (James 4:14)
God does not want you to be uncertain about your eternal future. But to understand where you stand with Him, you need to hear both the bad news and the good news of the gospel.
The Bad News
1. We Have All Sinned
God’s standard is "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect" (Matthew 5:48). But none of us meet that standard. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)
The Bible describes the depth of our sin:
"There is none righteous, no, not one… there is none that seeketh after God." (Romans 3:10-12)
"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked." (Jeremiah 17:9)
Even our best deeds cannot erase our sins:
"We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags." (Isaiah 64:6)
Perhaps you think of yourself as a good person, but Jesus taught that sin is not only outward actions, but also thoughts and attitudes:
- Unjust anger is murder in the heart. (Matthew 5:21-22)
- Lustful thoughts are adultery in the heart. (Matthew 5:27-28)
Sin is not just a mistake—it is rebellion against a holy God. And sin has consequences.
2. Sin Brings Judgment
Because God is just, He must punish sin. "The wages of sin is death." (Romans 6:23) This means:
- Physical death – separation of the body from the soul (Hebrews 9:27).
- Spiritual death – separation from God now and for eternity.
The Bible warns of “the second death” in the lake of fire:
"Whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." (Revelation 20:14-15)
"The smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night." (Revelation 14:10-11)
This is sobering. But God does not desire for anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9). That’s why He made a way for you to be saved.
The Good News
3. Jesus Christ Died for You
Though we deserve judgment, God’s love made a way for our sins to be forgiven.
"God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)
Jesus Christ is not just a great teacher—He is "God manifest in the flesh" (1 Timothy 3:16). He lived a perfect, sinless life and willingly gave Himself as a sacrifice on the cross:
"The just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God." (1 Peter 3:18)
On the cross, Jesus took the punishment we deserve. "He was wounded for our transgressions… and with his stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5)
Three days later, He rose from the dead, proving that His sacrifice was accepted. He is alive today, offering salvation to all who come to Him.
4. You Must Personally Receive Christ by Faith
Salvation is not automatic—it requires a personal response. Jesus calls you to repent and believe the gospel (Mark 1:15).
a) Repentance: A Heart Turned Toward God
Repentance is not just feeling guilty—it is a complete change of heart. It means agreeing with God about your sin, turning away from self-rule, and surrendering to Him.
"Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:3)
"Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out." (Acts 3:19)
b) Faith: Trust in Christ Alone
Eternal life is not earned by good deeds, religious rituals, or personal effort. It is received by grace through faith:
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Saving faith is more than believing facts about Jesus—it means personally trusting Him to save you. Jesus said:
"Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." (John 6:37)
Will you come to Him?
Will You Trust Christ Today?
God has given you this moment to respond. Don’t delay:
"Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth." (Proverbs 27:1)
Right now, you can call upon the Lord in sincere faith:
"Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:13)
If you believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9-10).
A New Life in Christ
Salvation is not just a ticket to heaven—it is the beginning of a transformed life.
"If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Once you trust Christ, you belong to Him forever:
"I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." (John 10:28)
God will lead you to grow in faith, love, and holiness as you follow Him.
Final Plea: Come to Jesus Today
